Mr. Tate is a Licensed Professional Mechanical and Fire Protection Engineer in Texas and 28 other states. He is a Past President of the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and served on the SFPE License Examination Committee. He is also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the International Code Council (ICC). In 2007, he received the ‘Hats Off Award’ from the Society of Fire Protection Engineers “in recognition of exceptional effort in support of the PE Exam for the benefit of SFPE and the profession”.
Mr. Tate has 30 years of experience in the mechanical field and 15 overlapping years of specialized experience in fire protection. He holds a Master of Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and completed two years of Doctoral Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He was employed as a design engineer on the B-2 ‘Stealth’ bomber with LTV Aerospace and Defense, as a Research Engineer at the University of Texas at Austin, and was Chief Engineer with another forensic engineering firm before joining Verité. He began practice as a Forensic Mechanical Engineer in 1991. In the years since, he has investigated several hundred matters and provided expert testimony over five dozen times in state and federal court, in both civil and criminal matters.
In 2007, Mr. Tate joined Verité Forensic Engineering, LLC. as a Mechanical and Fire Protection Engineer. He is based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and can deploy both within the region and coast-to-coast. His expertise lies in fire protection systems, fuel gas equipment, gas explosions, underground piping failures, workplace injuries involving machinery, fires and explosions involving combustion equipment, malfunctions of fire sprinkler systems, and water leaks of all sizes.
Mr.Tate has provided instruction on the hazards of fuel burning appliances, appliance failures, LP and natural gas explosions, and failures of underground fire mains, at venues like the Insurance Committee for Arson Control, the Multi-agency Fire Investigation Task Force, and the NFPA World Fire Safety Conference.
